we then took a leisurely drive over to Tellico Plains on the Cherohala for smoked BBQ at the local joint off 68. checked out bald river falls and climbed to the top.

take 68 down to 294 and connect with the Hiawasee dam access road. this takes you to the 2nd largest damn in the system- fontana dam is the largest.

continue along the access road to joe brown highway till you get to murphy. leaving murphy you'll enjoy a really nice drive along 19/74 and on to the nantahala river gorge. if river rafting is your thing, this is the place to do it. We finished up with a blast up 28 to fontana for saturday night's dinner.

Sunday is always bitter sweet and we leave fontana for 600 mile drive home…but not before we did devil's triangle in reverse

600 miles there, 350 miles of driving on friday and 350 miles on saturday, then 600 miles back- what a way to shake off the winter cobwebs.

see you next year.

i'm tellin' you, the devil's triangle is very nearly our favourite road now. there are corners there that as you come to the crest, the road suddenly drops away and turns. there are some really fun yumps and bumps and switchbacks. its 40 minutes of driving bliss. The North to South drive is more fun as you're hugging the inner side of the mountains and it isn't until you do the South to North run that you realize there are some pretty serious drop offs. put a wheel wrong and you'll have a very bad day.

From Fontana, it takes about 90 minutes to get up there to the start at oliver springs, TN. Stop for lunch at Fox's BBQ- it ain't pretty, but it is good.

Hope Killboy don't shoot me for these!

All ripped from his video by his drone at the gravel lot!
