Replacing a S2000 CV Joint
Guys,
I am sure this topic has come up, but I can't find the specifics. I need to change the CV on the driver's side. The boot cracked enough for grease to blow out, and it has started clicking.
OK, I foolishly assumed it was a normal CV with a round metal circlip, not a square metal one, which I just discovered. In the past, on other cars, I could pound out the CV joint, although I once used a puller. That was decades before my AP1.
I understand the circlip is not made of circular steel but rather square, which would make it nearly impossible to hammer the CV through or yank it out with a puller. I purchased what was claimed to be a Honda CV joint, but I now question that claim since the CV appears to be factory non-serviceable. I know I should have simply purchased a new, high-quality axle, but I have fixed CVs before and assumed they were all the same.
My question is, assuming the CV joint I ordered is a real Honda, does anyone know if I could take it to a shop and have the CV cut out with a torch without damaging the axle shaft? Further, if this is accomplished, could I reinstall a new CV joint by squeezing the circlip with a steel strip or a large tie wrap to allow pushing in the new CV joint?
If I am in dreamland, let me know.
Thanks

Enter this into your search engine -- just copy and paste it.
replace cv joint site:www.s2ki.com
Highlight it and right click on it, then select "search Google" for it.
This usually gets me better results than a forum search. Then put some time aside to run thru the results. Let us know your success -- our cars are getting old.
