Revved car through an underpass. Just barely held at redline. Heard a clunk sound. Then watched lots of smoke fly through my exhaust. Valve cover had hole punched in it. Pulled valve cover. Cam was scratched up. I believe a needle bearing under the cam blew into two pieces. Used a scope to check each valve, so far it looks good. I plan on pulling the top end today so see the extent of the engine. If only the top end, is it work rebuilding it. I know a trusted rebuilder in my area.
We all rev the engine under bridges and overpasses. Rev limiter work as it should have? I'm sure you'll now admit that it's not a smart move pushing it that high (more polite than saying it was a stupid move ).
Be extra careful removing and reviving the cylinder head and note skimming the top of the head and block allows only microscopic changes.
