Default AEM EMS question...

I have a question for those of you that know lots about the aem ems. Is there any way to just download the stock settings that are on your stock ecu? This way, before you get it tuned it will atleast work like your stock ecu? If not something to download, atleast a place on the internet you can look at so you can just put in your own stock settings. This way, while it is not tuned by an expert yet, you still know you are running safe settings because it would be exactly like your stock ecu. I thought I would try this post in here before going to s2k talk or the FI forum. Thanks!

you can run one of the base maps, but it's not something that you should run for a while or even spirited. I think there was a story on the main board that an early 04 used an aem supplied base map and it turned out to be a base map for the 00-03. That was a couple of years ago so there should be a base map for us ap2 that will at least run the car, run ac, and that sort of stuff..

Anyways, it's not like it's hard to swap the ecu out. It;s only the plastic trim plus 3 bolts which I'm sure you saw when you installed your vafc. It will literally take 5-10mins to install. The tuning will take the most time. Just take the ems to the dyno and install there. Speaking of which, where is the nearest ems authorized tuner? I know John at Secret Services is a good tuner in Tampa, but I've had some not so good experiences personally from him

Yea, I have taken my ecu out plenty of times to know how easy it is. So aem has base maps? I am just trying to understand the whole tuning thing. While it would definetly take an expert to tune your aem ems to run full potential with your car. I was just wondering if there was a way to know what all the settings are on a stock ap2 ecu and just put those same settings into the aem ems. Wouldn't it then run exactly like it did with the stock ecu? And wouldn't anyone be able to tune it to those settings since you already know them?

well, not every car is the same thus one's settings wouldn't work with someone else's. You get a little careless and you're in for a big headache. Besides, when you're shelling out the big bucks for an ems plus tuning, you want to extract every safe possible hp out of it or else you would have kept the stock ecu right? Though I guess hypothetically, you could mimic the stock parameters to have it run like stock if you really wanted to.

Tuning for wot isn't the hard part. You want to tune for cruising also to maximize fuel efficiency and not have sudden hicups when you do go wot. That's why the vafc isn't my favorite as it's settings are only good for wot. It's also why you want to go to someone who is experienced so they can get it set up right for cruising and wot. I'm sure someone else can explain timing as I've never really researched that area.

While every car is not the same, every 04-05 ecu is the same. So, putting these settings into the ems would be just the same as driving with the stock ecu in right?

Let me rephrase my question--what do you expect to gain from the AEM EMS?
