The Florida Highway Patrol now has a new way of detecting a cars speed. It's called Vascar-Plus and is completely undetectible. I have no idea how many of these systems they actually purchased, but can gaurantee that there is one around Tallahassee. The car that got me was a light blue color with some kind of marking on the side. I had no idea it was a trooper until I saw the blue lights. Just wanting to give a heads up to my fellow S2000 owners. Stay alert, drive slow, be safe.
The paper that came along with my ticket... (Click for larger version)
Vascar-plus is a time speed distance computer that has been around in various permutations for many years. it can be used from vehicles or even aircraft. I question how a car could be seen from a mile away unless it was from an aircraft. The state of PA has a law that the calculated speed must be at least 10mph over the speed limit when using Vascar+ below 55mph.....that may be an argument in your defense.
I would want to to know the exact visual points the officer used to time you and determine if there was a possible paralax error in observing you car go past the timing points. Just my $0.02 worth.
EDIT: Also note that the date the flyer was printed was 1998.....not so new technology!!!!
The cop told me it was new. I did notice the date on the flyer, who knows... He told me that the system calculated your average speed over 0.1 of a mile. That immediately jumped out at me as a weakness to the system. Assuming it calculated the distance and time exactally (which is obviously another weakness) the difference in "speeding" and "not speeding" over such a short distance would be fractions of a second at best.
However, I received the ticket a little over 400 miles from my house. I hardly believe a $120 dollar ticket and 3 points on my lisence are worth driving back up there to stand court; risking them hitting me with a $500 fine, court costs, and a drivers improvement school. I think I'll just bend over and take this one.

I feel you on that one. Its practicality vs. prinicpal on this one, which sucks bigtime. If you have some chances to spare I would pay the fine, take the driver improvement course and keep the points off your record.
I would demand to see the complete diagram and any source code to the device used. Not that this will make any diference. Heck I just got a ticket in orlando for having an expired plate, paid it and that was that i thought. Turns out they are charging me with it being my second time, even though it's never hapened before. So I am having to get a lawyer and the cheepest one i can find is $1500. I bet the whole thing is going to cost me 5000 before it's over.
Proof that it's 99% of cops that give the 1% a bad name.
