if you're going to tampa, keep going and check out the naples area...

then you can cut across alligator alley back to Miami

 

Stay in New Smyrna Beach instead of Daytona. Daytona can be pretty slummy, and Smyrna can be nice. There's a few bed and breakfasts I can send youthe numbers to. We should have a meet in your honor!

 

On your way up to Jax, you can stop at Kennedy Space Center and take the tour. It's about halfway between Miami and Jax.

From the Space Center, head over to Orlando to visit Micky...but expect it to be amazingly hot and crowded that time of year.

From Jax to Tampa...take the back roads (we can help you plan when you get here). Head over and see Ichetucknee Springs.

Then down to Crystal River...stop at Charlie's Seafood for dinner.

Once in Tampa you can hit the Salvador Dali Museum.

When you get into Miami, you might consider a trip south to Key West as long as you are that close, before heading north. Make it down in time to see the Sunset Festival...a dusk ritual as the sun sets...fair warning that it is a bit "flamboyant" leaning towards those with an "alternative" lifestyle...but fun entertainment none the less. Hit the Margaritaville Cafe for margaritas!

 

 

 

What book? If it is "The Yearling" by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings...then the area she is after is actually southeast of G'ville. In Cross Creek. There is an interesting restaurant there too called The Yearling.

 

I think someone just volunteered to set it up!

No outdoor restraurants in the middle of summer though Mr. Gee!! Please...

Phil...it will still be about 83-85F (27-29C) at 8pm...with lots of mosquitos...and very humid.

 

A1A is a nice drive... one can slow down an smell the oysters... cause the drive up 95 to 10 to 75 to 4 to 95.. should take what.. a day...

so i'd map out an off the main interstate set of routes... 10 day road trip... few days here an there...

land in Miami.. rent something fun.. convertable for those top down moments one should never plan a trip without... head south down 1 to the keys cause that by itself is worthwhile.. then back track to miami.. stay A1A up towards Jacksonville and see sighs suggested along that route zoom across 10 cause unless 301 is of any interest not much else is there... take 75 south ( i'd take 301 and watch the exact speed limit thru WALDO...) path to Cross Creek cause the Yearling would be a nice stop... idle down to sTampa... and, cut over to Orlando, but i'd just idle back over to sTampa area and down the west coast and see the Glades... pick up a gator for a pet and slide across to Miami.. fly back to merry ole with an other then Interstate point of view of florida roadways...
