Default Change Wheel & Tire Size from 16" to 17"

Need some help. I have an '03 AP1 with OEM wheels and 16" standard size tires. I'm considering changing wheels to a 17" size wheel using the 17" size tires that Honda changed to beginning in 2004/AP2. Is this a straight forward change, or are there other ramifications I need to consider? I have original rotors and calipers with new yellow stuff pads. Suspension is stock. I started looking on Tire Rack and they warn about an 45mm offset will be very aggressive on rear with tire bulge and possible fender modification. I'm not sure what they mean. I'm under asumption that the wheel well clearance is the same for both model years but they simply went to a lower profile tire, same diameter with a larger wheel in the middle of it. I'm hoping there's a tire geek out there that can set me straight. Thanks.

Yes factory 2004 and up wheels will fit without any worry. When they say 45mm theyre talking about the offset of the wheels. In layman's terms, the lower the number the closer the wheel is going to sit to the fender or even poke out. Most wheels for the S2000 are going to be in the 60mm range.

But again, you will have no issues with the OEM 17" wheels and tires on your AP1

Thanks for the reply. I'm not planning to use OEM 17's but rather an after market wheel. I know the 2004 calls for 17 x 7 front and 17 x 8.5 rear wheels. Tires, 215/45R 17 for front and 245/40R 17 for rear. Just looking to improve both the handling performance a little as well as the lower profile look without doing anything stupid. This backspace and offset stuff is new to me. I'm trying to study up on it. I did find A wheel fitment guide that gave a +55 ofset for front 17", 215 tire and +65 offset rear 245 tire. Those are the same offset numbers as my OEM 16's so I think I should try and shoot for that combo to be safe. I need to find a backspace to offset conversion chart that goes above 6" backspace. That 17" wheel size & tire combo in a black wheel is a little tougher to find it seems. Thanks again. Any other helpful info out there is appreciated.

Yes, and thanks on the fiment guide. That's the one I was talking about that I found very helpful trying to understand all this wheel/tire tech stuff. Also found the Tire Rack tech stuff very informative. I'm finding out there's not much in wheels out there in 17" size that will fit an S2000 with the proper offset and stagger. I may just stay w/my OEM 16's or look for a deal on OEM 17's. I'm afraid to upset the performance balance of the car and/or cause other suspension problems. At least now I have a better understanding of whats involved.

Thanks again, If I come up with something new I'll pass it along
