Default Clear Bra Removal, Much harder

I am in the process of removing the clear bra from my car. I have spent almost 10 hours and have peeled two mirrors, both headlights and the hood. What a royal PITA. I was uanaware that the material had a 5 year warranty and that after 4 years it becomes difficult to remove, especially if baked in the FLA sun. Mine was installed in 03.....you do the math. I learned the hard way

My tips:

Do it in the sun on the warmest day you have.

Use a heat gun to warm up the material.

Use scraperite or equivalent plastic razoe blades ( I have not sratched the paint yet)

On a compound curve, try sliding the blade sideways along the flap you are removing. You can get a fairly large piece off a t a time by doing it this way.

Heat about a 2" strip at a time with the heat gun, being careful not to melt the film (mega PITA)

If you loose sunshine or it is below 70

Hmm... I may just take mine off after two and a half or three years if that's what's going to happen.

It was on the car when I bought it so I am not sure. Ryan of Auto Pain gaurd said it was one of the first generation products.

It is getting cracked and has taken on a crinkled appearance. I am taking it off now because in another couple of months it will be way ugly and even harder to remove. If you just try to peel it of it comes off in 1/4 inch fragments.

Can't you just get your front repainted for the cost of a clear bra anyway?

Probably not too much more. It's never the same as a factory paint job though. I don't care how good the body shop is, it will not be perfect.

That is my thinking.

Even if 3m is warranting the new stuff at 3 years, that kind of defeats the purpose......and someone is paying for it. Game of Ponzi, anyone???

I always remeber that I put seat covers on my 87 300zx (to save the seats) When I took the covers off to sell the car, the covers had stained and ruined the seats. There is no best solution.
