clutch problems...
OKAY SO I JUST GOT MY AP1 ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF AGO AND I FRIED THE STOCK CLUTCH ALREADY. IT SUCKS BECAUSE THESE CLUTCHES ARENT CHEAP WHATSOEVER. BUT I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAS REPLACED THEIR CLUTCH AND IF SO DID YOU DO IT YOURSELF? I JUST MOVED TO THE TALLAHASSEE AREA AND DONT KNOW OF ANY SHOPS THAT CARRY PERFORMANCE CLUTCHES SUCH AS ACT. BECAUSE I WANT A STAGE 2, ANOTHER OEM I FEAR WILL SHARE THE SAME FATE AS THE ONE I HAVE NOW. SO ANY INFO ON SHOPS OR SELF-INSTALLS WOULD BE GREAT, THANKS.
SIDENOTE- I WORK OFF OF SOUTH MAGNOLIA AND THERE IS A YELLOW S2K THAT DRIVES BY DISCOUNT TIRES WHERE I WORK WITH A GREAT SOUNDING EXHAUST. JUST WONDERING WHAT KIND OF EXHAUST IT IS....

Jesus! Stop SCREAMING!
I had mine done at the local Honda dealership. Cost $1100 installed. I got them to comp it. If you bought it local, they take care of their customers. I got mine replaced, then found out it was not covered under the extended warranty, and they "good willed" the repair. I would not want to take it anywhere other than the Honda dealer here in Tallahassee. I have heard good things about Import Authority, but no experience. It would be REALLY hard to do it yourself, as the entire engine needs to be dropped to get the angle to get to it. A lift is almost a must. If you can get a Helms manual, you can probably do it yourself, but it would be risky on an expensive part.
As far as performance parts, order from hardtopguy.com. He used to work for Honda (or maybe still does and just changed dealers). He REALLY knows this car, and the performance parts for it.
My car is not yellow. That might be Zach....not sure if he got his J's 60mm of not yet. My car is Silverstone, but looks YELLOW this time of year with all the oak pollen. I got a Comptech exhaust.

Yeah i know how hard it is to do it myself. Ive read all the forums and im sure i can do it but i dont have the time or a lift that will lift it high enough. But yeah mine is silverstone also and i know what u mean about the pollen...it sucks. However i didnt buy locally, i just moved here from south FL. I bought it in tampa. Ive only been here a month and a half. So they charged u 1100 out the door, but what do you mean they "good willed it". Because my warranty was over about 3 years ago...
And you just replaced yours with an OEM unit?

Hey sup man. I'm "the guy with the exhaust," it's a J's Racing 60RS single. I appreciate the props on the exhaust
As far as the clutch goes, it depends on how you're going to use the clutch. I've heard a Stage 2 or 3 ACT clutch is pretty much indestructable for about 60k miles, but our clutch is actually pretty damn good for a stock clutch. Our OEM clutch is made by Exedy, and it should last for at least 60k miles as well. I've seen them sold online for like $350-400, but after that it just depends on labor. Unless you're pushing over 250whp, the stock clutch will work fine, cost less, and be easier to drive. The ACT clutch is a nice clutch but I wouldn't spend the extra money unless you really like dropping your clutch or plan to bump up your power.
I know the mechanic at the Tire Kingdom on Ocala road, his name is Brian -- he does really good work, I don't know how much they charge for a clutch swap but I would check them out, they've done a lot of work for a lot of us car guys in Tallahassee and Brian does good work, I would assume it would be cheaper there than at the dealership but I'm not 100% on that.

yeah well im at 38k miles and its fried. and vteconly i can drive very well as a matter of fact. but i came from south florida near moroso and went there often so the clutch took alot of abuse. and im planning on upgrading, turbo actually. so im probably gonna get a fidanza flywheel with a ACT heavy duty PP and an organic street disc since i drive the car every day.
but zbrewha863 thanks for the info. and yeah the exhaust sounds good but i was lookin' at the j's dual RS. but its about 3 grand. but i didnt know they did clutch work at tire kingdom....thanks again for the info though. and i work at discount tires on magnolia so if u ever need tires we do quality guaranteed work and we are the cheapest for tires. but thanks for the info and you have a nice car. i was gonna get a 04 yellow S but the payments came out more than i wanted so i got the silverstone you can see sitting at discount tires every week.

Cool supahman04, good luck with the purchase. A lot of people like hardtopguy.com's package of the ACT PP, OEM disk and (used to be) Comptech flywheel. Comptech went out of business like a month ago though, so they're probably using Fidanza flywheels now. Let us know how it feels, and thanks for the props on my car.
yeah anyone used cool and deadly performance shop here in tally. they gave me an estimate of 550 to install it but i dont want to take it to a shop that does half ass work. but ive decided on the fidanza and act. problem is the act doesnt come with a new throwout bearing. but i can get one from the honda dealer i suppose.
I would not trust Cool and Deadly from what I have heard. I've heard that there are guys there that can do good work, but unless you're in good with the owner (I think his name is Mikey) there's a good chance of your car getting f***ed up.
But that was with engines, Cool and Deadly likes to spray pretty much everything they do enginewise. It's hard to mess up a clutch install, but possible. I talked to one of my friends about this, he used to work at Tire Kingdom on Ocala and he said that labor costs for a clutch start at about $500, so I would say it's a fair price. It takes about 5-6 hours to do yourself in a garage, if you have an alignment tool and know how to use it.
