Default Did the krankvent mod

For those who dont know about this i thought i would share. Alot of FI guys do this. The other 2 reasons to do this is it reduces oil consumption and stops your dipstick from popping up. The reason i did it is my dipstick kept popping up all the time. My car doesnt burn any oil and runs great but the dipstick was sticking up every time i popped the hood. Now the only down side to this mod is because it creates vacumn in the crankcase some cars develop a "chicken noise" which is basically your sparkplug seals squeaking from the vacumn developed. A krank vent is a PCV valve(1 way check valve). On AP2's you only need to add one on the front like in my picture because the rear one is already high quality metal. The Ap1's use a plastic one in the rear which is cheap IMO. So i would replace the rear if i was going to do this mod. I used a 1995 Toyota Supra Turbo PCV valve which works perfect for this because it's made of metal and high quality. This cost me $2.88 at Advanced Autoparts part #PV1009M. There are companies that sell fancy ones for $100 but it's a waste of money because this is only a check valve. Now to do this to an Ap2 you need to cut a small section off the hard line going to the intake so it's the same diameter as the check valve and buy piece of 3/8 hose to fit it. You also have to cut the hose coming off of the valve cover in half so you can fit the valve in and buy one hose clamp as in my pictures. After installing the krankvent i now have suction when i pull the dipstick out. Vacumn can only make your car run better. Alot of AP1 guys that burn oil have done this mod and now they burn no oil. So hopefully this can help out some fellow members. Basically you can do this for under $5 and if you have an Ap1 you just need an extra PCV valve so it's $10.

not really all that bad. Just a faint sqeaking. People say you can hear it worse when in a drive thru because it echo's off the wall

I though the AP1 was supposed to "consume" oil from day one. 9K RPMs probably has that effect on oil. Burn sounds like its broken.

Not really. My Civic turned 10k rpms and had 32lbs of boost with no oil consumption except a little from the turbo. Alot of people with FI use them so there is no boost in the krank case. Thats why this part is from a TT Supra. My engine must have a little blow by that is probably why the dipstick pops out. Now it has vacumn which helps seal the rings. My car put down 215whp before and i'm curious if this would add a few hp. This works and there are many threads on it but alot of people are skeptical. Just like people are afraid to take out thier CDV because they think honda put it in for good reason. Personally i like my car to perform as well as it can. So i do what i can to make that happen

It started to happen recently and there are many others on the boards that have the same problem. I just turned 90k and drive the hell out of it. Even if i didnt have this problem i would consider doing this. When i pull the dipstick out you can hear the suction now. I will show you in person if you would like.

I'm going to try this tomorrow. Are you saying since I have an AP1 I should put one on the rear hose as well? I was reading somewhere where a guy only did the rear hose.
