Hi all,
I recently bought a car and its unregistered now.
but I need to move it.
In California DMV has one way permits which are valuable for a one way trip from a given start city to another city.
Does something like that exist in Florida?

I have never heard of a "one way permit" however if you are buying the car from a dealer they can issue you a temporary tag (usually 30 days from date of purchase) that gives you time to get the cars paperwork (registration, plates, etc.) done.
If you buy the car from an individual and it has a tag they will most likely keep their tag however they can go to the DMV and get a temp tag for the car which is called a sellers tag and it allows them to keep their tag and gives the buyer the 30 days as mentioned above. If I remember correctly the sellers tag is free (no cost to the seller).
Good Luck!

Thanks for the answers.
Actually the seller removed his tag already.
The car is stores in a garage some weeks already.
So I can just go to DMV an get a temp tag?
For how log will it be valid?

You will more than likely need auto insurance before getting anything. Do you have a Florida driver's license or international? Chances are with international some companies will not insure you or you will pay a higher rate.

Hi Yarbrough,
thanks for the advise, I do know that I need insurance beforehand.
Some companies will issue an insurance even for non-residents, have dont that before.
But I need to find out how or where to get a temp tag.
I searched on the DMV site but it looks like only dealers can get temp tags:
http://www.flhsmv.gov/etr/etr.html
It would really come in handy if I could order it online, if I have to go to an actual office it would be OK too but I cant even find any info if they even would give me a temp tag as a private person?!

You can get them as a private person. I would suggest calling the closest DMV office to where you will need it. The chances of getting online would probably be slim since you are required to have insurance to tag a vehicle.

Just go to your local DMV, during non-busy hours, I suggest 10am. Be friendly and they will be helpful. I am almost on a first name basis with the women at my local tag agency. Seems I am always registering a new vehicle.

I checked with the DMV about this before. If you are buying a new car, they want you to bring the car to them so you can get a new tag... they will not issue a Temp tag unless you are the seller and there is currently insurance on it. The seller would have to have a reason for the temp tag...needing a temp tag until this car sells is fine.
Just bring the bill of sale or title or something with you when you go to pick up the car. DO NOT put another tag on the car that doesnt belong to it, that is illegal. Just drive the car to wherever you are going, and like I said with the proper documentation that you just bought it and you will be fine. You might get pulled over, but with the paperwork you will be fine. I have had to do it quite a few times, and driving across the state I have not been pulled over without a tag.
Is the car you are picking up the white one from Miami area?
