About a year and a half back, I got a special invite to bring my '03 S/C out to play with the new Lotus Elise on this track. Dimmitt Lotus had about 20 Lotus car owners out there along with 2 Ferrari's, 2 Bently GT's, about 1/2 dozen Porsche's and a stray Vette or two. It was pretty much a customer appreciation day and they rented out the track for the day. You could run all the laps you wanted for about 6 hours, or until the rubber came off the rims, your choice.
I have done road courses, coned SCCA courses and open street. But, this venue was by far the most incredible time that I have ever had in a car. Closed, private, track associates in full flame proof zoot suits, a flagman timing your entrance onto the track, organized saftety meeting, etc.
But the track is something you have to experience. High-Banked oval turns with a course that drops you down into the infield with additional turns and 2 long straightaways. The complete oval is 3/4 mile but the lap layout has gotta be pushing a full mile. You do not have to get off the track, you just keep driving until you want to get off. Most folks pull over after 5-10 laps to let others on, check tires and brakes, etc. Believe me, after 20 laps, almost everbody was done for the day....but not me! I think I counted 35+ laps before I said that I had had enough.
Anyway, this ain't cheap but I well know that this will be the macdaddy of track events that you will experience in your cars. I want to try to keep this to the S2000 but a few others may join us to help defer the cost plus, you get to check out how our cars run with the competition.
The cost is $2500 for the day. You have to bring your own helmets. We have to do our own drinks and lunches. Nothing else is provided, just the track and the management team for safety and track mishaps. If say, we get 50 cars to participate, that ends up being about $50 a piece. Match that against a $35 dollar entry fee, 4 runs against cones and having to "work" the track all day. At 50 bucks with unlimited runs, this can be a steal !!! Plus, you get to actually attack a track that is wide open and its only limitations are your skills. On the straight leading up onto the Banked Oval, I got just about 85 MPH before braking into the Oval.
What I would like to do here is have folks post back who are DEAD Serious about committing. Rob said that we could set up some kind of PayPal account to take care of the funds. But before we do all of that , I just need to see who is in for this event. It is located 1/2 mile north of I-4 just one exit east of Lakeland so it is dead center of the state. Everyone from Jax, Tallahassee, tampa bay, Sarasota, Naples, heck even the Gold Coast can all get there in easy time.
If we get enough interest to do this, I'll post up a new thread with the details about how to pay.
