I think Ocala is mostly older retired people. You will have to drive a while to get to a big city (Tampa). If you like living the slow paced life, it's a nice quiet area. Kind of hilly as I recall (hilly for Florida anyway). I bet nobody in Ocala has an S2K! Do you have family there?

Ocala is in North Central Florida, about 30 miles south of Gainesville, home of the University of Florida. Both Orlando and the Tampa Bay area are about one and a half hour drive down I-75 and the Florida Turnpike. Jacksonville is a couple of hours away also.
Ocala is called horse country because there is a huge Thoroughbred Horse industry here. Many very large horse farms, breeding facilities and training centers. The area is growing quite fast, pushing up from central Florida.
The terrain is fairly flat here. The hilly area is south of us in Lake, Polk and Orange counties. That is where we have our best drives. Lots of twisting, hilly roads with very little traffic. It is where we will be driving in April.
The pace is slower here than in Tampa and Orlando. If you like big cities and the fast paced lifestyle, you may not like it here. If you like a little slower pace, with lots of lakes and rivers, huge oaks, national forests etc. you will probably like it here.
In addition to mine, I know of at least 5 other S2000 owners here. The local Honda dealer is Buchanan-Jenkins Honda, which is where I bought mine. I am sure there are more.
There is a very large retired population here, but unlike the Miami and Tampa Bay area tend to be younger and a lot more active. They also seem to be lot better drivers. I lived in the Tampa Bay area for a lot of years, and a lot of the older drivers there were very dangerous.
I am not aware of any KKK activity here and on average the population is pretty well educated and has embraced modern technology.

Thanks Don your insight to this area is very helpful. We have 2 horses of our own and we don`t like the fast paced lifestyle. We live kind of in the country here but still close enough to D.C. that what ever we need in the city we can do. Also are there any other places that you guys can recommend knowing what we are looking for, and help would be great. We are planning a trip to Fla. to look around, and we want to look at more than one area while we`re there.
You guys sound great i hope that we can all meet one day.
Thanks, Eddie

Pasco county in the northern part of the Tampa Bay area is still very cheap and is also horse country. You should check it out. Ocala is nice, but you'd rather be closer to a larger city (my opinion of course). Get the best of both worlds and do the Pasco thing.
