If you just keep driving and choose to wait until your court date you run the risk of getting stopped again (possibly by the same guy if he recognizes you) and then things could get worse.
Unfortunately, LEO's can make our lives miserable if they so choose regardless of who is in the right. Don't let this situation get worse. If everything you have told us is true then go get it fixed right now (and file a complaint against the issuing officer while you're at it).

believe it or not... cops have done worse... some of them will tell you you cant drive just to make you think you cant drive... they get pleasure out of it... some of them are the lowest of our fellow citizens... Is your NJ license fully valid? any warrants or suspensions? your license can be suspended for unpaid tickets and you wont even know it till you get caught...
i had a FL, CA, and VA license... but in all 3 states, I had to surrender my previous license to get a new one... i think theyre suppossed to cancel your previous one... maybe NJ forgot to cancel your FL license, so that is why its still on the records...
i can see how this can cause simple confusion on the side of a cop... and well... confusion means guilty when it comes to meeting ticket quota's...
DONT get a new FL license till you get this fully resolved in court... you should be able to drive till your court date... WALK (literally) into a police station and explain... if they say they cant do anything, call a traffic lawyer...

lorida has a highly transient population and drivers that move out of the state must forfeit their Florida drivers license when they get a new license
That is from the state website. This means that since you did not forfeit the license you are responsible to keep it up to date. Be prepared to pay a fine.

Unless of course, you need their help, then they are your bestest friends in the whole wide world.
