Default Interior noise

Love my black and red 2000 S2000...with the top down. Interior noise with top up is terrible. Looking in to new radio. Is my car unusual, or are they all extremely noisy? Is there anything that I can do to help?

Thanks,
Mike

Is it wind noise, exhaust, or drivetrain?

I get exhaust noise because I have an aftermarket exhaust but I put the windows up and can talk fine on the cell phone at 80mph. Not that I got rid of Sprint.

Hey Mike:

If it's wind noise, the hardtop works fantastic!!!
Now that I have mine, it's been a permanent fixture on my S

Hardtopguy is selling them at the cheapest price, check the market place...

If it's wind noise you may just need the strikers (the part the latches for the convertable top hooks on to) replaced. When I first got my S I had major wind noise so I took it back to honda and they replaced them under warrantly. I believe there is a TSB or recall for this on the '00 models.

If it's transmission noise there is a TSB (I believe the number is either 054 or 055) for gear backlash that is noticable when decelerating from 4k RPM on down. The noise sounds like a sloshing sound coming from under the stereo.

Hope this helps

Wind noise it is, so I will follow up on the strikers. Thanks Chris for the advice.

Is the hard top easy to take off and replace or is it a pain? South Florida weather equals frequent changes between top on and topless...

Hardtop goes on and off easy. Weighs only about 40 pounds. It does however take up about 2 X 6 feet of valuable floor space in garage when not on the car. Install is also two person job. They make an overhead crane type assembly as well, but if everything is not done just right it wouldn't take much to have a pin scratch something on the installation or removal of the top. That said we love having the hardtop and it makes a big difference in the sound level, and temerature of the interior. Heat and AC both are much more effective. Large rear window is also a plus.

I believe that the strikers are TSB's for MY2000 and some MY2001s, so if you have anything newer, then the noise is not because of the strikers.

Hey J,

Car looks nice with the hardtop. The fact that I don't have a garage makes it a tough move though. Thanks for taking the time to answer my concern. Enjoy, looks to be a good weekend on my coast!
