Default Looking for a cheap daily driver

First and foremost, CO's, if this is somehow against forum rules, then do go ahead and lock this thread. I'm just trying to get some local help in my quest.

I'm hoping to do some serious work on my S2k this summer, so I'll need something to drive in the mean time. It also wouldn't hurt to have something to keep me from piling miles onto my good car. So, basically I want something cheap, reliable, and won't get me laughed at everywhere I go. Car, truck, or SUV...doesn't really matter. It doesn't have to look beautiful, as long as it's not rusting apart and it has to run well enough to be driven daily.

My spending limit is about $1500. I don't want to break the bank on a beater car. I know I'm really limiting myself with wanting to spend so little money, but I'm no rich man, and I want some money left over for things I have planned.

Does anyone out there in S2ki land have such a car or know somebody who has such a car they are willing to part with?

Scott, you are totally within the rules on this post.

I'm thinking an old civic, or Sentra might fit the bill for ya.

maybe even a high mileage prelude there pretty cheeap sometimes. If you are near Jax i work at Duval Acura we have a 5th gen with like 230K on the clock but i heard that the motor was just replaced in it. How long it will be there is a diferent story but is was stil on the lot i think they took it on trade for next to nothing so it cold be a posibility

Bill, thanks for the verification. Yeah, a Civic or Sentra would be cool. Ideally, if it's a car, it would be something that I'd like to do some mild suspension mods to at some point down the road. I'm also strongly considering an older Volvo wagon as well. Not only are they cheap and reliable, but my friend offered to GIVE me an NA 2J motor+trans to put into it whenever I want.

loophole35, that would be awesome. Unfortunately, I'm about 2 hours away from Jacksonville. However, if the price is right, I can drive up there Sunday or Monday.

I have a 93 SE-R that's just sitting on jackstands, but I decided (yesterday at the grand prix) to start rallying it. If I change my mind I'll let you know. It's not in the best of shape, but has AC, LSD and 110k or so, but it's a mexican domestic market car, no MPH on the speedo

I've got a hooptie while stationed in Korea. It's a 92' Hundia.. Huyndia... whatever. Anywho, I love beating the shit out of it. A kick here and a punch there. Almost makes not having my S here bearable. Mine cost 300 bones. After this experience I'll always have a hooptie. 21.00 a month to insure the thing, no up keep besides checking fluid levels, and I don't give a damn about it.
