From the Mid-Atlantic
Well gentlemen, I live in the Washington D.C. area, and while I like it here I feel like it might be time for a change of scenery. Of course it helps that the offer is to move to Miami and take a nice pay raise. What do you guys think of Miami? Is it a nice place to live? I have visited a couple of times, and I enjoyed it, however poeple usually enjoy visting places that they don't live.
The pay raise is nice, but its to take another job fairly different than what I am doing now, so I don't know if it is worth it. The thing that would really convince me would be living near the beach and never having to deal with snow
Anything you guys want to share good or bad about the state of Florida is welcome here, please help out a fellow brother of s2000ness. I value your guys' opinions.
Thanks in advance!
Mike

South Florida is a great place to live and drive the S all year long. I would suggest that you have an alarm, and keep the car garaged. there have been theft issues down here for quite some time.
The alarm and garage should keep the car safe.

Mike,
the south florida group is the first group I met in S2KI.. they are an awesome group.. with that said.. you can go anywhere in the southeast an be welcome.. ( we all do ).. I suspect that applies to s2ki people everywhere... you get to know'm
as you may learn from reading the boards.. alarms, seat locks, garage... and paying attention to your surroundings... not alot different then anywhere..

Mike,
Not sure of your marital status, family situation etc. however if your b-day is correct in your profile I will assume you are single with no kids.
I say that because 22 years ago I faced a very similar opportunity to what you have described. I was single and decided the worst thing that could happen is I moved, hated it and moved back. Then I realized what better time in my life to do it! No one to disrupt but myself, once you are married and start a family the decision becomes more difficult as you have to consider the impact of your actions on others.
You said it yourself, more money, near the beach & no snow! Sounds like a simple decision?
When I first moved here I moved to South Florida and honestly I did not fit in. I grew up in the Midwest and South Florida is far from the Midwest in terms of the people and their values etc. I liked Florida and decided to try the Tampa area which matches more closely with the Midwest. Twenty two years later, still here!
Now the flip side, I can honestly say I have grown to hate the summer heat almost as much as I hated dealing with the snow. I said almost, while the summers are hot and afternoon showers are normal you learn to adjust, you do outdoor activities early to beat the weather, or early evening.
The one thing I do not miss are the long stretches during the winter months where you do not see the sun. This is not a problem in Florida, plenty of sunshine, year round. The winter months (November thru April) are heaven! For the area I live in it is almost like early fall (in the Midwest) for 6 months, cool mornings and evenings with sunshine during the day, low humidity and did I mention sunshine!
We get a few "Cold" days, but nothing to complain about. The best months of ownership for the S are November thru April, top down in the AM, with the heater on of course, and by noon you are reaching for the AC controls.
Good Luck in your decision!

Thanks for all the great advice! And unfortunately I did hear about the theft in south florida especially....... That is no good. I guess I'll just have to buy a hardtop!
On the serious side however, I guess the theft is very common? Where I am in Virginia, crime is rare, however not unheard of (my bmw got broken into and a bunch of shit stolen). I just don't want to lose my seats/top/car....... I guess its deinitely something to keep in mind when picking a place to live.
I know I will be able to get used to the weather. Summers here in Virginia are pretty humid and oppressive, but I don't have a beach within 3 hours of me. Weird huh? I live on the Atlantic coast and can't find a beach for 3 plus hours...... I like the outdoors so I would imagine it would be alright.
Anyhoo. Keep the opinions and stories going guys. Everything helps! And thank you for the responses so far! Getting to like this place already.
