Moving from CA to FL
Hello all! I recently changed careers (sales to aviation) and just got my first job as a flight instructor. I will initially be moving to Jacksonville where a shared appartment will be provided for me. From there I could wind up anywhere. I have been told that if I am willing to move to Ft. Lauderdale for six months my career will move forward quicker. The school needs instructors there and I would rack up plenty of hours. My only concern is the cost of living. If I go to a different location I can share an appartment for $200, which includes the utilities. Does anyone have suggestions for inexpensive places to live in the Ft. Lauderdale area? Thanks in advance for your help.

Not sure about FtL living, but CA has like 11% State Income Tax, Right? FL has ZERO state income tax. That'll help. Most apts in decent areas will probably run about $1000 for a 2bdrm, $800ish for a one bdrm. Check out apartments.com for an idea. $200/mo is hard to beat, but your roommate might be Atilla the Hun. I could never go back to roommate life.
Good luck with the career change.

I don't know the Nguyen family but my parents might. They just started living out there full time and are becoming involved in the community. The skiers of Discovery Bay have been overtaken by wake-boarders. If you haven't tried it you should. Totally different and totally fun.
