A friend of a friend is moving to Tampa to work at the VA hospital. Ideally, she is looking to rent a "bungalow". Any Tampa residents have some suggestions of places to look and areas to avoid?

Not many bungalows in Brandon unfortunately. There are still some good deals around but it's starting to get expensive out here. Even nice apts are getting pricey. If I hear of any I will let you know.

 

The immediate area around the VA is rough and high crime ridden, do not go west of the hospital. Brandon is nice but a real traffic quagmire plus 15+ miles one way commute. Have her look right in the section just east of the VA called Temple Terrace, 3-5 miles away. It is perfect. Oodles of apartments, condos, houses, perhaps even some bungalows.

Brandon North of 60 isn't so bad, it's just south of 60 that sucks with traffic.

Personally, i'd avoid the entire area close to USF.

 

I would say Temple Terrace or go NE to the New Tampa are, lots of nice condos near Tampa Palms.
