Default Moving to West Palm Beach.

Hi,
I am moving to West Palm Beach from Dallas, mid July, and I thought I would introduce myself to you all and see if I could get any info about the area. I have a 2001 blk/blk, which I got right around a year ago, and absolutely love it. I was never into cars before this one but the S2000 has changed that for me.

I decided to move to Florida because I have always been a lake/beach bum and Dallas has very little of that. Also there is absolutely nothing to see or do during the day or on the weekends, other than finding refuge from the 100+degree temperatures during the summer and the somewhat freezing cold weather in the winter.

Anyways was hoping anyone that lives in the area could give me a little info about what to see/do, where to go and not go, any clubs bars....basically any info.

I have found a place to live which is at N.Flagler and Clemantis(sp?)/Lakeside, is this a good neighborhood or should I get an alarm?
Looking at the website is sort of difficult to tell, and I would not trust an apartment to tell me that they are located in the ghetto. I have not had an opportunity to visit yet but hope to do so next weekend to finalize plans and get familiar with the area.

Hope to meet you guys soon and thanks for any info.

Welcome to the area Karl. I don't know much about WPB, but I can tell you about Miami or Fort Lauderdale. One of our members, Jackie, lives in that area. Perhaps she can assist you. Anyway welcome and hope to see you out at one of the meets.

Welcome... I used to work at Flagler just north of Okeechobee in the area and know it well, feel free to contact me with any questions. I also own a 2001 black/black which is just about a year old. I live in Boca which is about 20 miles south of West Palm Beach.

Clematis & Flagler is in downtown, so you may want an alarm. It would depend on the parking situation (ie secured, unsecured, street). Judging by where the apartment is, I would assume its pretty pricey. You may want to look at the apartments at CityPlace. Its very close to there and they have security, plus they are brand new. The only problem is they aren't cheap.

Good thing about that area (Clematis) is thats where all the stuff to do is in downtown. Lots of bars and clubs, all are pretty normal. I like to go to bradley's which is right at clematis and flagler if I'm not mistaken.

Hey there Karl, glad to see someone is living up in my neck of the woods!! Well, Clematis and Flagler is right in the middle of Downtown which has really become
beautiful. As far as getting an alarm, I would say to go ahead and get one, its not the ghetto, but like any downtown, the areas around it aren

Hey,
Thanks for all of the info. I live in downtown Dallas now so I am pretty accustomed to downtown type areas, although more bad things happen to my car when I take it to the suburbs it seems. BrownEyd and KeithD the building, The Jefferson at Flagler, has a parking garage but only one space is given per apartment. I was told that there is parking on FLagler, but I know as with most places Downtown, free parking or street parking is generally hard to come by. I would definitely garage my car but our other car is past its prime so it will more than likely be the one on the street.

As far as music and club stuff. I lived in South Beach a few years back and hung out at a place called Velvet. I am into house mostly but also like jazz and hip-hop (although I am probably too old to admit that). In my days before becoming a computer geek I DJ'd at most of the clubs here in Dallas and did a mix show on one of the stations here.

The Moroso Track sounds like fun as well. I am really not into street racing b/c of the obvious risk, not only to the racers, but everyone else on the road, but I have been known to get into the 150+ club on a deserted stretch in the middle of Nowhere, TX..

I look forward to meeting you guys and hope to see you on the road in the next month or so.

Welcome! Great to hear you are moving our way. Downtown WPB is not like Dallas. Probably just 1/10th as big. If I am thinking of the correct apts, you are moving into new buildings that are less that 1/2 occupied. They are also right by the Palm Beach Yacht Club and a hopping club called Bradley's. The only place you really need to be careful is Riviera Beach (about 10 miles north on US1). You'll have to have us all over for a house warming party! ha ha

Downtown and City Place have lots of security (Fla hates when the tourists experience crime). I'd hold off on the alarm 'til after you get here and check things out. If you aren't locked in, you might want to check City Place apts (name??). Also brand new, and there are two HUGE and FREE parking garages there.

I know where Jefferson is, its a little north on Dixie before getting to Northwood. Thats not really Downtown any more per se, and too far to walk in my opinion. Yeah, like he said, you might want to look into City Place, or a few other places closer to downtown, depending on what kind of rent you were looking at. You can go to www.cityplaceapartments.com, but all in all, the Jefferson is really nice.

Hi,
Thanks for the tips. I actually checked into the Cityplace Apartments when I was first looking, but the money they were asking was a bit much. For the same money I get an extra bedroom and nearly 300 more sqft on the 8th floor. I compared the ammenities side by side and the pages were nearly identical so that was a wash. Not knowing the area I am guessing that location may be the factor in the price difference, but that is just a guess.
The way I see it either place is going to be nice and I am sure I will be happy either way.
If it is an extra few blocks to downtown that is not really a big problem, I could probably use the excercise. I also have another toy that will get me there when I dont feel like walking as well, http://shop.xootr.com/xootr/ex32.asp To be honest I have found myself riding the scooter around here nearly as much as I take my car, but my average trips are less than 2 miles and usually are just to run to the store.

Anyways Thanks Again.
