Sounds to me like you're on the right track. The only other thing I can think of is a computer problem.

switch out a coil ... even with one next to it. If you can find another S2000 with good coils switch them out ... one-by-one ... and see if there is a difference. Coils are known for issues.

If that doesn't solve the problem ... then check compression. Even with 'good' though you could have a cracked valve seat or piston/ring. Also, valves can be bent slightly or be impeded by something ... enough to allow intake/exhaust to still breath. That also causes 'stuttering'.

Usually the misfire code comes back to injectors. But if you're sure it's not injectors, then definitely compression check and/or leak down. Might have a bearly tweaked valve or sticking rings.

Borrow some coil packs from a well running car to test yours...but that's fairly rare for them to go out on this car. And check the plugs to make sure they are oem...perhaps a previous owner put crap plugs in or used Bosch Platinums thinking they were better.

It sounds to me like a weak battery or a bad ground. S's have little batteries but love electricity.

Plugs are def OEM, I put the NGK's in brand new last year. I pulled that one cylinder today, it is a little on the rich side but otherwise in good condition. I think the next thing I'll play with are the coils.

also if it helps...flashing CEL/rough idle only happens when the motor/temp outside is hot. In the mornings or late evenings, its fine.

What gives?
