Question need help fast..

ok so a couple days ago I put my top down and I hear something very disturbing..so I go ahead and put my top back up and theres a rip on the drivers side where the clip connects to the car. Now I did purchase my car in april of 2005..its a 2006 lease..but I also had a small accident and then took it to a body shop. While it was there someone had found the same type of rip in my top..that was my original top..so that body shop had to replace it at their own cost. So this one that I have now is my second top..should I be covered under the dealership warranty or should I go through the bodyshop??..the bodyshop said that if this is a defect that I would have to go to the dealership, if not then I would have to work something out with him...then I called my dealership and the guy immediately decided to book me in for an "INSPECTION"..which to me meant that he was just trying to charge me for a new top like this is my fault..Ive read around the forums that this is pretty common..but just wanted any input that could be positive to my situation..if anyones been through this or has any idea what I should do please let me know..maybe upholstery could be an idea for the small rip as well?..anyone know a recommended place?!

If the tear is horizontal, put the top back and look where the back of the clip rides. I'll bet that's where the cut is.

If so you'll find another wear spot on the other side.

It's from driving with the top down, the clip rides there and rubs.

If they won't replace it, you can patch it and put another patch on the other side to keep it from wearing through.

The trip to the body shop complicates matters, but this is a known issue with the S2000. It should not rip on such a new car, but a positive outcome is not guaranteed from the dealership. It shouldn't be this way, but it will be up to you to negotiate a new top. Just try to avoid the back and forth between the body shop and the dealership. A new top is expensive enough that there will be a lot of denial going on unless you encourage the right solution.

Bob's Top Shop in Winter park comes recommended, but I have never personally used them.
