CCleaner will not replace an anti-virus program. CCleaner will go through and cleanout all of your internet temp files, cookies and all kinds of system bogging processes and files but does not protect against viruses or other things.
I suggest CCleaner with AVG anti-virus and a program like spybot search and destroy to safe guard completely and to keep your computer running smoothly.

nice Mac....
software designed to clean important files an folders is critical to a pc's upkeep.. however all the features of most every software i have seen can be done without their software from within windows own environment.. then, to make matters ever so more complicated... most the cleaner software an even MS internal versions don't actually clean an or remove some of the temporary files one would want an one should manally go in locate an remove such in order to factually clean the OS... it's the same with all OS's...

I have a free copy (for MDCPS employees) of SOPHOS anti virus. MDCPS got away from Mccaffrey's and Norton last year. Is anyone familiar with SOPHOS? according to the IT guys this company has only dealt with corporate anti virus...
Thanks John, I'm going with SOPHOS, now I'm confused about what j_c_a is telling me about Google the files (fragments) left behind in my computer. Do I use the search within my computer and type in Norton, or do I use Google on my search browser to search my computers? Thanks guys
Will.. several actual parts of programs leave themself's in the pc even after they supposedly say they are successfully removed.. an one has to actually go in an find them...
no you don't use goggle to search for them on your own pc.. you can do that best in the windows explorer itself.. use the windows key an tap the letter E down an it'll bring up the windows explorer.. and any hidden files would have to be told to unhide... but that does get confusing to many so often left alone by most... you should still be able to see files an folders an that's where one would look for whatever files they wanted to be certain were removed and or where to remove them if they'll let you manually...
I'm not sure you need to do any of this... it's just we all know the cleaner type software doesn't really remove some files... and many of us just go to the directory and delete them manually

Norton leaves the updater software behind and I have had issues with that. Norton programs are like a cancer. Hard to get rid of one they have metastized. I go though the uninstall list looking for anything that has Norton or Symantec and remove them all, then run cleaner for unused files and full registry cleaning and delete all that it come up with. My PC is two years old and fast as hell. The old registry entries can really drag the system down.
Be extremely carefull about removing hidden files as some of them are critical to program operation. Unless you truly know what you are doing, DO NOT start deleting hidden files.
CCleaner has a very good interface to the uninstall system in windows as well as a startup program controller that is easier to use than MSconfig....these are found under TOOLS.
