I thought there was something about trading a car you owned for at least a year that had significantly lower gas milage but I haven't found that.
Thats the new "Cash for Clunkers" bill that just passed recently. Sadly, your purchase doesnt qualify at all. I believe the vehicle you're turning in must have been made in 1984 or later and then the new car must be an American brand and get 10 mpg better than the clunker and at least 22mpg average to qualify for the full $4500.

I did find that I qualify for the tax credit for the sales tax and I believe the interest I pay on the loan.

I don't make over $250k combined with the wife.

I bought it within the time range alotted.

The car was less than $49,500 and weighs less than 8500 lbs.

I don't get a Hybrid incentive because the Prius has been produced in quantity.

We all know you are "RICH" and I am willing to bet you actually paid taxes last year.

shit, I might "buy" a clunker just to get that incentive. Anyone know of a clunker that gets 10 mpg less than a ZO6?

Not to get off topic, but I wonder how well this program will work without increasing gas taxes. It would seem to be a better policy would be to increase gas prices and, in conjunction with those increased prices, provide for a tax penalty to incentivize getting rid of gas guzzlers. If you really want to get people out of large SUVs, then get gas prices may need to be around $4.00 a gallon or more.

I also have a problem with tax credits for hybrids. So long as a car is economical and relatively clean from an environmental standpoint, I don't see the reason to favor one technology, i.e., hybrids, over another with tax credits. If the government wants to provide credits...fine. But what difference should it make a car is clean and fuel efficient with a hybrid powerplant or a diesel powerplant?

Just raise taxes to increase the price of gas and tax cars with powerplants that are high polluting powerplants or are fuel inefficient, and then you'll see a change in driving behavior and buying decisions. Of course, this would need to be phased in over time.

Guess Jeff won't be eligable for any Cabinet Level Positions either

When they build a sports car with 500hp that gets 30+ MPG, I'll buy it. Not selling my S because tax hikes increased fuel prices. (In fact I am building my wife an El Camino and never even thought about the gas milage on a ZZ4) The interent didn't take off because some gov't official raised the rates on telegrams.
