well, it sounds like it is personal unless required for some legal circumstance, which I imagine can be easily claimed as a requirement if it is available....
Yes, it's only avail if legally required, but then, why in the world would it be requested for any other reason? The honda dealership isn't going to care one bit as the event data recorder won't effect a warranty claim. The other sounds like it's talking about the ECU, which has been used to deny warrany claims for years (for example, it records overrevs if a CEL occurs at the same time).

As for speeding, that sounds like total BS.
There's enough controversy surrounding speed ticket cameras as is.
I even read somewhere that if your car throws a CEL it can be displayed by an LED light or marker of some sort which can be visible on the exterior of the vehicle. This will give the authorities the right to pull you over and question you about the emissions the vehicle is emitting and even force you to repair the car immediately.

I doubt it, primarily because the designers realize that people aren't stupid. It would be far too easy to simply disconnect that LED, or remove it from the bumper/whereever so it really would serve no purpose - except added cost for everyone.

have they been used yet to screw anyone over?
How would they screw you over in a situation that you were not already breaking the law? It would also prevent insurance fraud. They are not going to deny a warranty claim due to hard driving (as long as the engine was run within spec).
