I've got a bunch of MiniDV tapes i recorded using a Sony Handycam, mostly from the dragon..

How do you get the video on the tapes into computer format? what hardware do i need to buy??

Also, does anyone know any decent, inexpensive editing software? I want to add still shots and dub music.

You need to get yourself a Firewire card and cable to transfer the files to PC.

What kind of camcorder do you have? Some of the newer ones can transfer using USB 2.0. Otherwise, you'll need firewire as RXDI says. Not all PCs come with a firewire port. If yours doesn't you'll have to buy a firewire card.

If you have WinXP, you can use the MS tool that comes with the OS...it's called MovieMaker. Not the best in the world, but is easy to do simple stuff.

Did your camara come w/ a USB if it did just use Windows movie maker that's what i used
