Recommendation needed for DSLR
My use will be primarily for out door activities, but eventually will be portraits and modeling. Which camera do you photofreaks recommend?
I'm looking at a 40D from Canon.
What to look for when buying used?
Thanks.

I have both a 30d and a 50d. I am thrilled with them both. The Canon vs Nikon debate has been going on since way before I got into photography. I am sure it will go on for as long at the companies make cameras. At sporting events, I see professionals using way more Canons than I do Nikon. As for image quality, I actually like the Fuji slr system that uses Nikon mount lenses. Fuji images really pop but the frames per second is very slow making it less useful for action photography. Most choices are a tradeoff.
I think I would go with a new 40D, there are bargains to be had since it is discontinued. I have seen the body for $849. Remember there is a finite nuber of shutter cycles (100K is what is advertised) If you buy a used camera you may be looking at an expensive shutter repair down the road.
Good luck in your search and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I've owned a few Canons. The 40d is a great body. For action shots it's rapid fire is real quick. I might sell mine if you are interested. I'm thinking about getting a full frame sensor body and sell the 40d.
For action, Canon.... for everything else actually important theres Nikon
Buy as much as you can afford, but remember, the biggest thing is that the lens is more important than the actual camera. The worst lens on the best camera will still produce a crappy shot.

) users tell you otherwise, buy a Nikon D700. That's my next camera...
