Default On the road......

Hi all

We are having a blast up in N Georgia. The roads around Blairesville and Suches are great fun. I will try and do a post describing my favorite stretches. The 129, 180 and 60 loop around Suches Ga is now known as the Wolf and is a a blast drive. On weekdays ther is almost no traffic and lots of curves. We also ran the Richard Russel scenic Hiway and did not see another car for it's entire length. Man what a drive.

Car is running great and I am still getting between 20-25 mpg while having a blast.

I will post some pictures later as well as another update.

Regards to all.

Man, although its only been a week down without my S, I sure wish that I was up there with you. Most of the time, I set the cruise at 75 on all Interstate runs and clock my mileage at 24-25 on average. Last weekend, on the way up, I traveled at pace of all the traffic pushing 85 all the way to Asheville and I logged 27.7, 27.9 and 28.1 MPG. Couldn't belive it !!

Anyhoot, be very safe, have fun & keep us posted!

Hi everyone:

The captain and 1st mate are home safe and sound from our mountain road adventure. Sorry I wasn't able to do any posting from the road as broadband is scarce in the mountains. Moochers can't be critical while staying with friends and relatives.

Our first destination was the area around Blairsville and Suches Ga. There are many great roads in this area. The 60,129 and 181 loop through Suches is known as the Wolf for Wolf Pen Gap loop. The roads are tight and very unused. We made several runs through the wolf and had a great run 99% percent of the time. The area is popular with bikers from atlanta on weekends but almost unused during the week. I highly recomend the TWO in Suches. TWO stands for two wheels only but they do allow cars to park at road level. The food is wonderful and very reasonable. It is a dry county but you are able to bring your own beer or wine and there is no corking charge. My cousins girlfriend and I ran the Richard Russel Scenic Highway which has awsome views and no traffic to speak of. We ran it twice and did not see another car. Very nice.

Fom Georgia, we hopped on up to our stay at Ducktown TN. My buddy John Robinson and I headed out the next morning to tackle the Cherohala and the Dragon. The road to Tellico where you pick up the Cherohala is TN 68 and is a great road but we got stuck for 26 miles behind a cattle trailer....not the most pleasant ride dodging cowpies and inhaling diesel exhaust. We tore up 68 on the way back as we did not see another car. The Cherohala was awsome. In the 5 time I did it over the trip, I think we saw maybe 10 cars. One of my best runs was keeping up with two sport bikes. 36 miles of pure driving pleasure. I highly recomend this road, even if just for the views.

To be honest with you my runs on the dragon were a tremendous dissapointment. Ny first run was behind a group of harleys that slowed down to 15 mph for almost every turn. Not much fun. The return run was better as I tried to time my departure to maximize my speed. The first half was great but then I caught up to the bike I had followed and then we came across a bike accident where a Goldwing went off the road. No one got hurt but a bummer for the run. After a stop at Deals gap, I was ready to get away from the dragon. I am sure it would be fun with a group od S2ks but in general I will not go back to the dragon as a lone car.

On the way back to the Cherohala we discovered a 6 mile road that skirts Santeehla Lake. To be honest with you, I enjoyed that road much better than the dragon.

Our return on the Cherohala was even more spirited and a good time was had by my buddy and me.

The 1st mate and I headed out on Friday to do the 68, Cherohala and the lake road. It was great fun. South of Robinsville we caught the Wyah Bald road that takes you all the way to Franklin. Once again there are very fiew cars on this road with some great tight turns. Part of the road is up through a rock gorge and the Invidia sure sounded good reverberating from the canyon walls.....Waaaaaaahhhh!!

Here are a few pics....Enjoy

Thats all for now. I can't wait to do the trip with a group of S2k's

We go up every year and stay in Helen, GA at the Innsbruck Golf Resort. This is just miles & minutes from all of this that you posted about here. We always go up for the week between Christmas & New Years (this year will be 12/22-12/29). The villas that we stay at are called the Ingls (pronounced Ea-gles, like the bird)). The 3/2 2 story vills typically rent out at 150-175 a night, 3 night minimum. But, we have been going for so long that I get a $400 "weekly" rate. Great golf, hiking, and of course, spectacular driving!!

If anyone wants to experience what the captain just wrote about, look into this trip. Kids are out of school, so we have to take 2 cars but its worth it.

There is a possibility??? I will be in the big wheels as I need to go pick up my bird from being baby sat at my mom's house in clearwater. I could stop by on my way back to Bradenton. What time?? Is the bird welcome too?? 1st mate is out of town so she is a def no sho.

I would love to have the S but bird cage will not fit for a ride that long.
