So true on all fronts! The fact that the drivers and teams are so accessible makes it that much more fun. Even the NASCAR guys are more relaxed and approachable.

It is not uncommon to catch a 'superstar' like Montoya and be able to ask him how things are going, and get an answer about how he thinks his team will do.

I do like Montoya, too. And Pruett, and Papis, and and and. It is really about the people, and the teams. I'm not crazy about Ganassi, so I suppose I'll be conflicted again this year. I'd love to see Scott and JP repeat. It'll be tough, as there's a ton of very talented drivers and teams.

Being able to see the race from so many different perspectives is way cool, too. If you are up late enough chances are decent that you may even be able to slip by security onto pit road. Some of the pit boxes are empty because of attrition, so it provides a really up close perspective. We've been able to do this both of the last two years.

We'll be camped out just down from the exit of the east horseshoe, spot #503, so feel free to stop by!

For the newbies to the Rolex 24 here is a few tips. Keep in mind weather around this time of year is unpredictable. Be prepared for rain sometime during the weekend. Its been a really long time since it has stayed dry the entire race weekend. Nothing like soaking wet clothes and cold weather. Also bring warm weather clothes because afternoons tend to get warm as well. Best viewing to me is Nascar turn 4 of the oval grandstands area......cars seem to be at almost full speed passing you by. Nascar turn 1 grandstands is also alot of fun. You have the cars breaking from full speed to a 2nd or 3rd gear turn. Cars will also re-enter Nascar oval right around the Nascar turn 1 area. Of course viewing from the infield road course is cool.......lots of seating available. Be prepared to walk......have your best walking shoes ready because it is a hike between grandstands and the infield. I CAN'T WAIT TO INHALE RACE FUMES!!!!

what he said ... X1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000~

so far the weather looks really good ... but, actually should stay a bit chilly during the day. Highs in low-to-mid 60's ... but, low's 'only' in the 40's. Typically with high temps in the 60's the low's can be near or at freezing! But, they are saying the temp will not fluctuate that much

i'll be there starting Thursday ... i'm just not sure what time. I will probably just stop by the track to pick up my ticket and then, depending on mood, go in to watch some of the practice runs. If you're gonna be there just let me know if/where/when you want to meet.

The first 24hr at Daytona was in 1966. I was there, and haven't missed one yet. Some of you have been along with me for garage tours - hang with us, and you'll meet some of the coolest racers in the world (like, uh...Me!), from Ron Zitza to Randy Pobst and Scott Pruett; team owners Max Crawford, et al. The party at the motorhome starts Thursday & ends Sunday - bring Newcastle for admittance; overnight stays available for a (very) small fee for those of you wanting to stay at the track.

Guys like zDave, WillieG, Jeremy can vouch for the quality of the experience for you newbies...
