Default Shop Recommendation to Replace Soft Top

After 7 years, 22,500 mi, someone in Weston, FL tried to break in my car. This past weekend, I took a quick vacation with my guests from Chicago to Ft. Lauderdale, decided to bring my S and have my guests drive my MDX. All was going well until I woke up Sunday to go to the Keys and lo and behold, someone slit an L shape cut on the passenger side. I have seat locks so, the seats stayed intact. No other damages was done to the car. I called the police and filed a police report then, called my insurance to inform them about the incident. Since I was staying for a couple more days, I asked the wife to buy me duct tape to seal the hole. Last night, I drove home in pouring rain and the duct tape almost came off but managed to keep my wife dry. So now, I am shopping around for a shop that could replace the top.

I was thinking of replacing the top with the ones from Robbins so, that I could finally have the glass version. Anyone have had the Robbins top installed? How is the fit? Other alternatives will be considered. Any shop recommendation from the Tampa folks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

that sucks, how much did your insurance company pay out??i've heard of some insurance nightmares where they were only giving out 500-800 dollars because of the age of the car

There's a Robbins top for Sale in Florida: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=511328

It has great fitment and is an upgrade to your current top. It is a PIA to install however.

Congrats on 5 yrs on the site. Too bad this is the way you celebrate. Makes me glad I didn't take the S to WPB last weekend.

one of my friends had his top ripped. he did use duct tape for a while but then he used silicone to seal up the holes and so far no leaks. you can try that for a temporary solution until you get your top replaced

I am still working on insurance matters so, I don't have a figure yet. I called around town and found places that would install a Robbins top between $450.00 to $550.00. I also called Honda to see how much is a replacement top and was quoted $1246.62 for just the top. I am hoping the insurance would cover OEM replacement price plus labor. I will keep everyone updated.

Ishbu that was me! lol, i went to joann fabrics and got some thick thread and a thick needle, stitched it up and then put some black RTV sealant on it. works perfect! i let it sit in the sun for it to set. Then i got the water hose out and blasted it from every angle... still tight! Ins gave me a check for 1150 but was thinking of saving for a hard top either OEM/MUGEN but then around that price you can boost it! tough call! lol

I've narrowed it down to the ff. installers for Robbins. Here are the 3:
Anthony's Custom Restyling Inc. 903 E. 93rd Ave. Tampa FL 33612 usa (813) 931-8722
B.J.'s Custom Auto Upholstery, Inc. 8624 N. Florida Ave. Tampa FL 33004 usa (813) 932-7305
Ernie's Custom Seat Covers, Inc. 1102 E Hillsborough Ave. Tampa FL 33604 usa (813) 231 4883
Anyone in the area have had experience with any of the shops above? The cheapest one is Ernie's but a lot of body shops are recommending Anthony's. It's only about a $100.00 difference. The most expensive one is BJ's.
As for insurance claims, I am having a representantive come out and assess the damages. We'll see how much I get. Otherwise, I am going through my insurance preferred vendor and request for them to install a Robbins top.
