Slaying the Dragon
Hey guys. This will be my first year at the dragon. I need to know what to do. And what NOT to do. There might be a small swfl crew rolling up with me. But as of now it's myself and aero (brandon)
I know for lodging you guys usually rent a cabin. Does that mean there's some sort of party at Fontana Village at night or whatever? What day/days do you actually drive the course?
What happens on April 13th, 14th and 15th?
My goal is to have fun with the tampa caravan there, slay the dragon, drink heavily, then visit my +1's grandparents up there for a day or two afterwords.
I want to get everything straight before it's too late for reservations.
Even if you just point me towards the good dragon threads, thanks for your help

Some people like to go up early and hang out for a day. The first day everyone shows up and registers and unpacks. Some practice runs are not uncommon on the first day also. I believe that they have a driver's meeting that evening and will pass out an itinerary. They have one bed rooms, and cabins as well. The cabins are kind of spread out. SRS radio's are a must also. Cell phones don't work. Gas is very expensive!
If you haven't heard by now, "DO NOT CROSS THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINES"
Hope to see you up there.

A few tips.
Take time to do roads other than the Dragon.
Try to drive the Cherohala Skyway early in the morning. On one transit before 8am, we drove the entire 37 mile and only saw one other car.
There is a very nice road down along Santeehla Lake. very tight twisties and this road is almost unused. follow the signs to Joyce Kilmer Forest off the east end of the Cherohala Skyway. You will find it.
I wish I could go with you guys but wife and I are going to Alaska for two weeks, two weeks after Wake the Dragon. Just won't work this year.

I found that some of the other roads were just as satisfying as the dragon itself was.
