Default Update on Basement06's accident

Figured it was time for an update since I'd had a few questions. Medically speaking, my back's dorked up a bit and I have continuous headaches and dizziness. Good news was I got a doctor's note to stay home all week...LOL!

The S2k is at Carrollwood Collision getting taken care of and it's gonna run over $6k to repair. Good news is that all the repair, medical, etc. bills are covered by the other person's insurance since she hit me.

Thanks to CPS's advice, I just got off the phone with my legal representation so I can have them take care of the insurance claim stuff. 1 week of all that bullshit and constant running around to different doctors is enough for this cat.

Lesson for all of you...if you get hit by somebody else, call a lawyer. In fact, go find a reputable one and put their number in your wallet for future use.

Thanks for all the checking in and concern...it's very much appreciated.

I somehow missed that you had been hit. Glad everything is being taken care of.

Who are you using? 1-800-ask-gary or Duey, Cheetam and Howe?

Man, dont let that lawyer take 20-30% of your settlement. You can handle it yourself.

Also, your company will pay your medical bills, at least 80% under PIP unless you have medpay to pay the other 20%. Loss of income is covered under pip at 60% as well. Hopefully you dont have a PIP deductible...

We should have talked longer on the phone the other day. I worked in claims for 8 years and I still do insurance work now.

Let me know if you have questions,

James

Also, you should start thinking about diminished value. Keep some good photos of the damages and some of the cars pre-loss condition so you can have the car appraised afterward.

James...I'm an idiot for not thinking of calling you earlier since I forgot you dealt with insurance stuff. I'll give you a call tomorrow or Sunday (if that's ok?) to talk through the details some more. I talked to and met with some people from Catanian & Catanian since I wanted to make sure I didn't get screwed, but have 3 days to cancel the contingency contract.

Bottom line, yeah, pretty much all the lawyers are going to charge 33% roughly, but I figured it's better to have them deal with it and make sure I don't miss anything than go it solo without the same experience level.

Oh, while I'm thinking about it...I did consider "diminished value" and did a lot of research on it. Basically, it seems that I can look for anywhere from 18-40%. Bottom line, I had a practically new 2005 with 6400 miles on the odometer that was in "excellent" condition. From my research it seemed that a reasonable expectation was anywhere from $4400 to approx $9000 for "diminished value". Recommendations? If you have time tomorrow, James, let me know the best time to call.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words and helpful suggestions...again, very much appreciated!

-Jack
