Vacation : Daytona Beach
Florida! My girlfriend & I are planning a little vacation to your neck of the woods towards the end of July. We'll be driving down with her sister on Saturday, July 28th. The following Sunday they'll be returning home, however my girlfriend and I will be renting a car and staying in the area until Sunday, August 5th.
Our plans are to stay at the Plaza Resort & Spa at 600 North Atlantic Avenue : Click Here for Website.
Our plans are to make the drive over to Tampa for a day to visit Busch Gardens. Then later in the week, on two separate occasions we are planning to make the drive to Orlando - one day to visit Islands of Adventure and one day to visit Universal Studios.
Just wondering a few things...
Is anyone from this area? If so, do you know of this particular hotel? How is it, rather good quality?
Also, can you recommend any other things to do in the area? Obviously we are planning to spend a bit of time at the beach and to visit the local malls.
Thanks,
Chad

There's a cute little bed & breakfast near downtown Orlando. It's probably 20-25 minutes away from Sea World & Universal, but starting in July they have their "summer rates" which should be pretty good!
I've stayed there many times for work.

Chad,
I live just south of Daytona in a small hammock aptly named: New Smyrna Beach.
Maybe I can encourage our members to have a meet in your honor. But we d meet regularly. Any interest in auto-xing you rental?

When traveling I'm always a bit weary about staying at certain places, just due to the fact that you never really know how clean the place is until after you check in.

Wow - I've never really researched bed & breakfast things before, however that is really impressive. The rooms aren't expensive at all and they look real nice!

It's in a cute area (the historic district) and is within walking distance to some restaurants, shops, etc. It's near I-4, which makes it super convenient & is only about 25 minutes from the Orlando airport.
Chad ... don't mind Willie Gee ... he's been bit by the autoX bug!
(i have never been cured myself).
The Plaza Resort and Spa is a nice hotel with great location on the beach. You will be just a short walk away from the pier/boardwalk and beachfront social scene (theater, restaurants, ect.).
The Mall (Daytona) isn't the best ... but it will help with some shopping interests. The Malls in Orlando will be better for 'real' shopping.
Definitely get with Jim (Warpspeed) on Universal Studios (City Walk). There is so much to do there ... especially the evening activities at the many clubs/lounges.
If you have any extra time and would like some sort of 'culture' then I would suggest taking the short trip up to St. Augustine. So much history there with some great places to just relax and enjoy the sites.
Also ... if you're looking for a more quaint outdoor adventure day then here in Ocala we have Silver Springs (http://www.silversprings.com/). If I'm still unemployed at that time then I'll be out at a great place on local lake with my jet ski and would be happy for you to join me and feel free to take the jet ski for a ride while enjoying good food and drink.
just let me know if you have any questions.

That place came recommended from Ztec (Nick).

I'll have to talk to the girlfriend, see if she might be interested in staying there for a night or two. It looks amazing!
Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is a bed and breakfast? Haven't done too much research, but what I have gathered is that it's basically a place to stay that is much more cozy than your average hotel room. It's almost like an extra bedroom in a house where they serve you breakfast in bed.
