Warning Bad Dealership!
I took my 04 S2000 with 13,000 miles on it to Kuhn Honda because the transmission sometimes won't go into 1st or 2nd gear almost like a missed shift but it wont go in know matter how slow and deliberately I shift it. I take a service guy on a test drive and it does it twice in a 5 minute drive. The service manger (weasel) says I have to authorize a tear down of the trannie and if they determine that its not warrantee then I will have to pay $800 just for the tear down. I respond that I'm not going to pay for repairs when I complained to American Honda the first week I had the car of the problem. I wanted to speak to a factory rep and was told they would make an appointment for that friday. Two weeks went by and I heard nothing so I stopped at Kuhn To talk to the service manager. He again said I would have to authorize the tear down. I repeated that it was under warrantee and the service manager said "I want you out of my shop and If you ever come back you'll be arrested. I went to talk to the general manager and I'm sitting in his office discussing the problem when the cops arrive and tell me I have to leave and I can't come back or they can arrest me.
I've purchased 6 new hondas in my life and they not only pissed me off but they made shore I will never spend another dollar there again.
Don't go to Kuhn Honda Volkswagen.

I swear it's true, If anything I left out the several times I called and stopped by and was told they were making an appointment with the factory rep and never did. And all the service people telling me I must be a hot rodder because I changed the wheels and exhaust and I must have broken the car, before they even drove it. And having a trailer hitch voids the transmission warrantee because I didn't install an oil cooler etc (not true by the way). They decided they weren't fixing the car under warrantee before the test drive.
I did not buy my S there as they didn't have an 04 on hand at the time I bought mine, but I did shop there. Something I will never do again.
Oh well there are good and bad dealerships, this one is just bad.

FYI, the tear down inspection is normal procedure in cases like yours. Your response is most certainly not. You should have allowed them to proceed as they wanted and if they then state that due to their examination that it wouldn't be covered by your warantee, then you can fight with Honda. Jumping up and down and yelling does not help your position.
If the service manager called the police on you, there was probably a reason. I cannot believe the police walked into the general manager's office and told you to leave. You must have been causing a scene there too.
I own two Hondas. I bought neither from the local dealer, yet they give me the red carpet treatment every time I walk in.
I notice you posted this here in the West Florida forum, however you didn't post to the Florida forum which is frequented by the Tampa crowd. There is little chance of anyone here patronizing your dealer.

I know Ken, and he has always struck me as a reasonable, and not volatile person.
While it may be "standard operating procedure" for a dealer to demand a tear-down fee it is also reasonable for a consumer to refuse to pay such a fee when it is unwarranted. When the transmission on my car was exhibiting a grind into 2nd gear and popping out of 4th, the dealer that I took my car to did not hesitate to rebuild the transmission under warrantee. All it took was a test drive with a mechanic to verify the complaint and the repair was authorized. THAT is how it should work. BTW, I also had a trailer hitch on my car
.
This is the second time that I've heard of an S2000 owner being threatened with arrest by dealerships! What's going on, are we all hoodlums becausewe drive a sports car?
Ken - did you see my response to your post in the "Tell Honda" forum?

Thanks Josh I just read it and your correct that the dealer should not automatically assume the driver must have damaged the car.
Hey GSWETSTKY why do you assume I was yelling and jumping up and down and making a scene. If I was I wouldn't have posted it because they would have been correct to call the police, but thats not the case.
They called the cops because they didn't want to fix my car and were to stupid to explain their logic so they called the cops to get me out of their hair.
Kuhn Honda Volkswagen is a bad dealership!!!

If that's the case, then I'd make it a point to report them to the Better Business Bureau. However, I still hold that it's policy to do an inspection of the transmission to make certain it wasn't abuse that caused the problem. If they discover after getting the transmission apart that it was abused, there is no way for them to get their money from Honda to pay for the teardown.
That's the way it works. If the problem wasn't as a result of you abusing the car, you should have no qualms with them doing this.
Years ago, my Dodge Daytona Pacifica came apart 50 miles from home. It acted as if it had swallowed a valve. I left it at a dealer who took it apart, inspected it, then repaired it. They tacked on a $90 teardown charge which allegedly wasn't covered under my warranty. I paid it, complained to Chrysler and my money was refunded posthaste. As I said, that's the way it works.

I had posted the problem with my transmission in the tell Honda forum recently and a guy named Woodwork contacted me. He works for Honda and he's the Service Engineer for the S2000. He told me they are aware of this problem on the 04 but they don't know what's causing it yet. He's making arrangements to have my transmission repaired under warrentee.
It just goes to show that Kuhn Honda Volkswagen bites the big one. If they had inquired with Honda instead of assuming I had damaged the car somehow, they might still have a customer.
[SIZE=7]Stay away from Kuhn Honda Volkswagon And thankyou Woodwork!
