Default Why is oil so expensive?

Cause countries like this where extraction costs are minimal are charging us huge amounts so they can build stuff like this.

Rotating Skyscraper

After all, they have us by our oil balls.

One more reason to drill for us not them.

they better spend it while they got it, cause in 25-30 years they will have nothing to offer the planet.

oh yes they will....30 years worth of draining America's wealth.

And it's a French firm building it too. The Brits built the indoor ski resort.

Where are the US contractors?

might help the trade balance out a bit

These are plans...let's see if this skyscraper is built. Even if this is ever built, I guess I am missing the point. The oil was sold at market prices, and the sellers got their money. What are they supposed to do with it? Every society wastes money. Americans have their monuments to frivolity and useless self-indulgence too:

Not only is this a pitiful waste of money, it's an aesthetic monstrosity.

I agree completely with you triman. But the key word is money. Why let it go there when we can keep it here. This is a great industrial nation with no fuel but the fuel is there all around us. We need to develop our oil reserves for us. We need to develop new energy technologies too. Let one pay for the other.

One concern I have with increased drilling is that it make deflect attention from the real problem. What is the projected rate of increase in worldwide oil consumption? Proponents of increased drilling seem to assume that consumption will remain constant.
