April Day Run
Feeler message:
We've scheduled a group day drive for 4/12/08.
I've one trusted friend who has been there for the drive, another who's been there for the 'nature aspect' (a fall-season month). They both said the drive is suited for an S.
Southern IL - Shawnee National Forest. It's hilly like the Ozarks. There are roads like the the Ozarks (e.g., HWY 21 & HWY 19). But it's within a day drive from the STL Metro area -- IF we take a few miles on 'boring' main roads part of the way.
Goals:
Chester IL - home of Popeye
Chester, IL - Chamber of Commerce
The bridge over the Mississippi is noted: Chester, IL bridge photos
Lunch destinatation: Award winning BBQ - 17th St Bar & Grill (Murphysburo, IL).
Awesome BBQ
The twisties... Shawnee National Forest back roads
TBD
suggest to include the "Little Grand Canyon" area
OTHERWISE...
We've got one local member (eaglecom, Ed) who suggested this very intersting route:
DEPART WENTZVILLE
1) HWY Z TO HWY D (New Melle)
2) HWY D TO HWY T
3) HWY T TO HWY TT
4) HWY TT TO HWY 47 (Dutzow)
5) HWY 47 TO HWY 21 (Just prior to OLD MINES)
6) HWY 21 TO HWY 32 (Just past Caledonia)
7) HWY 32 TO HWY A
8) HWY A TO HWY 49
9) HWY 49 TO HWY 21
ARRIVE CENTERVILLE
This route includes a good photo shoot in centerville.
Lunch recommendation is "Bailey Joe's Barbeque" in Arcadia - no web site (sorry).
We've got some time to figure this out.
Post up on interest!
