Red face March Day Trip

edited 01/18/07

We have a couple routes planned for Saturaday, January 27, weather permitting (thanks 8BALL!)
Click here to jump to the details

Anyone else interested?

==========================
Hi All,

Our calendar has a day trip (weather permiting) on January 27. Here are some possible destinations that could involve a box lunch or beer-n-brat roast...
Saint Joe State Park - Farmington, MO (link)
Elephant Rock State Park, Pilot Knob, MO (link)
Pere Marquette State Park, IL (watch the eagles)

If the weather is anything like today, it could be a great ride. If there's interest, I'll put together a twistie route to the destinatation...

Any other recommendations?

My vote would go with Elephant Rock. Heading south would give us a much better route into the hills of Missouri. Near Elephant Rock, we also have several other great state parks.

Johnson's Shut-In

Taum Sauk Mountain State Park I think this park would be another great option as it is the highest point in MO.

I don't mind where we go as long as it involves the "beer-n-brat roast"

Are we expected to bring a brat to roast, because I don't have kids Now if it's hot-dogs...

How about this. These state parks are so close to one another, we can visit both.

I quickly drew something up.

There (Red Route)
121 mile trip. This milage includes stopping at Elephant Park, then heading to Farmington for lunch. I would think 1.5-2.0 hour drive plus 30 minutes at park. Figure 3 hours from the time we leave to lunch. For those that will need to munch before hand, bring a snack. We can also add an additional park for more photo opportunities at Washington State Park, adding only 5 miles and 40 minutes to the trip

Lunch around noon in Farmington and then a short trip home

Back: (Blue Route)
86 mile trip: A short and sweet trip home with some nice windies and twisties. Through De Soto, then to Eureka and home. Less than 2 hours

Suggest we leave at 8:00 (both parks) or 9:00 (Elephant Park only) with 1 potty/gas stop and then hit the park/parks, we should have lunch by 12:00. An hour (+/-) for lunch and 1.5 hours home, should get us home by no later than 3:00

Thoughts?

This is a "Round Trip" red line there, blue line back. Will try to get you back as early as 4:00, but no promises.

We could shorten the trip by not visiting Taum Sauk mountain which should take about 1.5-2.0 hours out of the planned run.
