I've done this on my Prelude (it has a ported and polished S2K TB)... no problems here and I drive the car in winter and summer.

I'm interested, but read a few posts that suggested there'd been slight problems with the rubber hoses starting to crack / split, & very minor leaks - is that true?

What about the bypass idea: rerouting the hoses instead of inserting ball bearings in-line - did anyone try that?

That's exactly what I did... just reroute the hoses instead of blocking them.

I am going to look for an on/off valve to install. I am in for an install day if and when this is done.

Guess that proves one thing: if your hose is long enough you don't have to insert your balls
