Default Powdercoating

Found this scrolling the forums. The guy who posted it was a first time user and gave good results. Said its easy to operate and produced good looking results.

Edit January 15th, 2008

Finally got around to some powder coating. This was a very simple process. I lightly sanded the metal that my brother Kevin and I were powder coating, I used 400 grit sandpaper. From there I powdered them using 20PSI from the compressor and 2 inches of powder in the powder container. Once powdered the parts went into the oven at 400 degrees for 15-20min. Curing time depends on the paint you are using. We powdered my J's License plate holder and a boost valve for his Miata. Both were done in Matte Black. One problem I ran into was orange peel on the license plate holder, I applied the powder to thick. The orange peel is minor and only noticable when looking at the part up close. Boost valve came out almost perfect. Although we had some orange peel I am happy with the results. If you have any questions let me know. When its gets warmer I will take lots of pics and hopefully post an in depth DIY although its pretty self explanatory.

I will check into that. I was thinking about doing small things such as the radiator brackets, battery tie down, etc.

Please post results. If you can make a before, during and after DYI instructions, that would be awesome.

i would think that any powder for powder coating would be high temp since you have to bake the parts at 400+ degrees

Good point. The sites I have been checking have "normal" and they also have paints that are high temp. They advertise high temp on things like headers and exhaust.
