Thinking about St. Louis
Meh... to be honest, STL wouldn't be my top 20 list of US cities to move in. It's NOT terrible and I'm sure there is worst. But if you are looking for a change, I wouldn't really consider STL. Sorry... that's just my opinion after leaving Montreal, Canada to come here.

I came to St. Louis from the Chicago land area nearly 20 years ago. I like the cost of living here, taxes, and what you get for the money. I hate the heat and humidity in the summer months. The climate is otherwise reasonable with mild winters most of the time.
I agree that St. Louis may not be in the top 20 places I would like to retire to, but I can aford this area and do very well. So that is a balance that I've agreed to live with.
I also live about 35 miles west of St. Louis. Yes down town is rated one of the unsafest places to live, however, the town I live in today is rated in the top 5% of the nations fastest growing areas and most attactive places to live for households exceeding 200K/year. In fact Doctors, Lawers, CEO's and such professionals are leaving the city life and moving into "my town"

I remember two recent x-mas seasons where we shopped in shorts. You do the math on how that effects "total yearly available top down time"

Sadly enough, I don't even like convertibles. I almost never put my top down and would buy a hardtop the moment i had a couple grand to spare.

Good color choice btw
Caterpillar is actively hiring engineers, and is in pretty outstanding financial shape. Peoria, IL has some decent roads, Fountain Inn SC has some OUTSTANDING roads, Decatur has some nice low-speed drives around the lake, but really nothing to set your hair on fire.
