Default Tranny Issues

Ok so I really don't know what is or was wrong with my S but i'm going to try and explain this the best I can and hope someone else knows something. Yesterday my wife and I were on our way home from our wedding photographers house after we put together our wedding album... I decided to do some "spirited" driving and was in the process of ripping a 3rd gr scratch and I swear I had it going into 3rd with the clutch still compressed and for some reason it tried to slide into 5th...which grinded like all hell...I brought the car back into neutral and eased it into 3rd and it was fine then 4th and it was fine even 5th was fine.....BUT it wouldn't go into 6th gear at all. 10 min or so later I tried again and it went half way in but wouldn't go the rest of the way. Then I tried again another 10 min later and it would go in to the point where I thought it was good but after driving a few seconds it would pop it back out into neutral. Then approx after 30 min of oh shit i messed up my car it went into 6th and drove but it was hard to take it out of 6th when needed. This morning on my way to work my car performed absolutly normal no problems at all with any gears..... wTF???? and ideas. I will say this in the past if I were to romp through the first 3 gears and then decide to just go to 5th or 6th to cruise it would grind on me... Is this a safety precaution. I just don't want to mess anything up it took me 7 yrs to get this car. Any ideas or info is greatly appreciated.

The 5th & 6th gears share the same synchro. If that sleeve is damaged (misshift) it will not turn and lock into one of those gears. If the damage is minor you can clear the burrs by rowing the gears.

If a gear doesn't want to engage, I wouldn't force it to engage. When is the last time you changed your tranny fluid BTW?

I have never changed my tranny fluid but i've only had the car since May. It was on my agenda to change the diff and tranny fluid this month once I get paid from work. The car drives completly normal now. There is no problems when shifting into any gear. I just thought it was weird and it scared me. Thank you for your info David and Keith.

That is good news, but let's get those fluids changed ASAP anyways. I believe Jimmy is heading out of town so his lift will not be avaiable. I'll be more than happy to help if you want to attack this sooner than later.

Ok so the damn car did it again.... It won't go into 6th.... This is really starting to agitate me. I waited 7 damn yrs for my favorite car to turn out to be a POS.. I thought it was supposed to be as reliable as a woodburning stove. Anyways sorry for bitching but I'm starting to think my purchase was a mistake. I still love the way it looks and I love the way it drives. But I am questioning my decision to buy this. I don't even drive it what I consider hard. My Accord had a harder life and it never gave me a bit of trouble with the tranny, or powertrain for that matter. Alright i'm done for now i'm going to go watch Transformers.

Thanks Ryan any info would be great... this time I wasn't even purposly trying to rip gears.. I was on an on ramp and my real estate was running out fast because an idiot in a big truck wouldn't let me in so i had to floor it to get on the highway. The first time it happened it fixed itself in approx 30 min. Now it's still not working.
