I want to get a set of 16" wheels for MY06 AP2 to run all-season tires through the winter.

Immediate choices are:

• Keith's set of OE AP1 rims, $200/set, used
• Wheel Images set of OE AP1 rims, $500/set, condition unknown
• Tire Rack's Sport Edition E1, $400/set, new
• Tire Rack's Kazera KZ-S, $480/set, new

I know it's fitting kit vs. 'made to measure', & aftermarket vs. Honda quality, but what are the pros & cons of a brand new set of wheels against a decent set of OE AP1 rims?

 

Personally, I would use OEM set of wheels for winter... it keeps that stock look. As far as the condition of used wheels, I wouldn't really care (of course I'm bias) . I mean it's for winter... Hell, I use black steel wheels for my 97 Prelude for the winter. It's only less thing I have to care about during winter... I mean, I don't care about parking the car and curbing a wheel or pot holes or even washing them during the winter. As long as the used wheels (regardless if they are mine or somebody else's) aren't damaged to the point that you feel a vibration or leak air, it should be fine.

Keep in mind that if you get aftermarket wheels, you are going to want to get hub centric rings. I also the fact that I don't have to worry about the offset when using stock/OEM wheels for winter.

That said, there is some flex in my pricing for the AP1 wheels .

Keith I may have to pick up your wheels if the price drops any lower, that's such a good deal.

And I've already got 2 sets One with winter tires, one with autocross tires. Maybe I need a set for track day tires too. I was thinking 17"s for those, but hmmm.....


But yeah Su2uKa, if I were you I would pick up Keith's rims. They really don't look that bad in the pics. You should see the scrapes on my race rims

 

It sounded like Shawn had called dibs on them & I'd be putting them on an '06 - I'm trying to keep it smart which is why I was looking for something a bit cleaner ... even if they are 'only' winter wheels.

 

Go with the OEM. Even though I prefer aftermarket wheels, this is for winter afterall. Once the road grime, salt, sleet, snow, more road grime... get on you MY06, it will take all of your time to keep it "smart"
