Default failure to stop at sign ticket

So, I was out for a leisurely late-night drive and I was approaching a 4-way intersection at which I was going to turn right. This intersection sees a lot of traffic during rush hour so it has a separate right-turn lane, separated from the going-straight lanes by a concrete divider thing with grass. I was alone at this intersection (or so I thought) and so I slow down to check it out (5mph probably), make the turn and proceed down the road. What I thought was a yield sign was really a stop sign here. Mr. Officer has no sympathy for me.

This was at the corner of N. Druid Hills Road and Clairmont Road, for anyone who might know the area.

How rough of a ticket might I be looking at? And more importantly, how might this impact my insurance? I've got a clean record so far and I would love to keep it that way.

Sorry to hear about your encounter with the law, all you can really do is try not to make the same mistake again. Definately take the ticket to court and plead guilty. Be very apologetic, tell the judge the you have been driving for "x" years and your record is clean, remind the judge that it was late-night and there was no one on the road. Follow that up by saying this was a very weak-minded thing to do and ask for the court to reduces your ticket to a non points violation.

Remember that there's no certainty that this will work but in EVERY instance that i've used this it has worked. If you just pay the ticket it will go on your driving record w/ points if you go to court I'd say you have a pretty good chance of walking away with a little less money in your pocket.

I've got a stop sign ticket a few years back. I just paid it because I also got 2 other speeding ticket in the same 2 week time frame and I didn't want to go to court twice with the same judge and for two different offenses. .... That stop sign ticket just dropped off my record a few months ago, I think it take 3 years or so.

Thanks ToEnvy, I appreciate your words of wisdom. I was planning on just paying it and moving on, but keeping points off my insurance is the priority, so I guess I'll go speak to the nice people down at the DeKalb courthouse when the time comes.

You wouldn't hate them if they kept a guy from raping your wife or breaking into your house.

running stop sign = 3pts on your record....i know from experience... its the reason why I could not get my job at Lexus, Honda, and Acura...damn points

good luck and like they said before.

DO NOT GO TO COURT TO PAY IT. YOU WILL PAY MORE...Only go if you are going to fight it

Good luck

Man that really sucks that it kept you from getting a job at those places.

Are you saying I should either pay it by phone before my court date and accept the points OR go to court and fight it and possibly have the points dropped but perhaps pay a steeper fine? Its not as though I blew through it at 35mph...

FACT~ if you pay the ticket you will have a lower fine and you WILL get points.

If you go to court your fine will be higher but there is a possiblilty you can get the points violation ticket dropped and just have a fine.
