Help out a Mid-Atlantic S2Ker?

I'll be in Atlanta (Peachtree area Marriot) all week for a conference. I can't stomach the franchise food scene there. So anyone have suggestions about decent restaurants, areas of the city for real food and the non-conventioneers scene? Preferably on MARTA or short taxi ride. Thanks!!

not familiar with the area you're in but the Varsity is a MUST for any Atl trip

 

Skip the V, go get a real burger at the Vortex.

I haven't been there yet, but I've heard really good things about Knight & Winan Chicken and Waffles.
