Welcome to Atlanta. Ideally in Atlanta, you want to live close to work to cut down on traffic time. There are apartments with garages for an extra fee. But if you are savvy enough, you can rent a house, depending on where you live. That is, inside the Perimeter, good luck. But outside the Perimeter, you chances are good in finding a house to rent for a good price.

If you wanna come to a meet, then check the calendar on s2katlanta.com

Welcome to the ATL!

I have found Apartment Finders to be a good service, especially if you don't have a lot of time to search. They are free to use and you can tell them exactly what you're looking for and what part of town you want to be in. I've also used rent.com, apartments.com and promove.com to narrow down the field.

As TheBigToeDrZAUS said, a lot will depend on where you want to be located.

thank you guys for the links

ideally like you said I would like to stay in Atlanta as I get a housing break. also I've always commuted a long distance so it would be rather nice to be somewhat close by.

given the time frame that I have, I have to keep my options open. a lot of people are mentioning buckhead. what do you guys think

Bulkhead is good, providing you are a yuppy that has deep pockets and always uses valet parking.
Welcome to Atlanta none the less, and good luck on your search.

stay in atlantic station, bulkhead or dun woody. if you work down town living anywhere outside there will be traffic.

Vinings is a pretty good area as far as balancing cost and location. Right next to I-285 and I-75, you're inside the perimeter "technically" so traffic isn't too terrible. Watch out for places like Atlantic Station, they've got some really nice places and then they've got some really shady spots...all depends on how much money you're willing to spend. Last person I knew that lived there had their car broken into and the door of his next door neighbor was kicked in during a home invasion (drug related).

Depends where in the Atlanta area you're working too as "Atlanta" basically covers everything inside the I-285 perimeter. Vinings is on the north side of Atlanta - if you're working on the opposite side of the city you'd probably want to look somewhere else.

Hey i lived i Buckhead.... not bulk. LOL you dont have to have deep pockets in comparison to the rest of the US cities and miami is no exception. You will find our prices exponentially better than Miami!
What job did you get?

This is very important. Where in Atlanta is your new job? That information would help to narrow down the search area.
