Savannah...recommendations
Savannah has a lot of history and nightlife. I'd take one of the walking tours early in your trip to get oriented in the historic district. Also, the historic district is the best place in town to stay unless you are looking to get close to the beach on Tybee. The nightlife generally revolves around bars with the best being Murphy's Law, Molly Macphearsons, and the Six Pence. If you want something a bit more upscale, the Baccus wine bar and Lulu's chocolate bar are both really good. Lulu's has excellent deserts. Wild Wings is the only chain worth going to since their upstairs bar has become a pretty popular night spot.
The best, and most expensive, restaurant in town is Elizabeth's on 37th. I also like Bistro Savannah which is downtown next to Molly's. Riverstreet is nice to walk down during the day, but the bars and restaurants are overpriced and lacking in quality (except for Tubby's key lime pie). Gallery Espresso and Savannah Coffee roasters are the best coffee shops in town. Both are in the historic district and Gallery is open late and serves wine.
The trolly tours are kind of silly, but I've heard the horse carriage rides are okay.
Tybee Island has a decent beach, but you've probably been to better ones. Fort Pulaski is pretty interesting as well. There are also tours of the Sorrel Weed house, which was featured on ghost hunters. I didn't see any ghosts when I was there. You can also check out the Mercer house which was featured in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
The historic district is safe during the day, and the main streets (Broughton, Bay, River, Congress, Whitaker, Drayton, and Bull) are fine after dark. However, there is a lot of crime in Savannah. Anything south of Forsyth park after dark is dangerous.
Let me know if you have any questions or need directions.

Awesome thanks for the tips Jimmy! my girlfriend's a "yankee" and she's never experienced such a place, hope the forecast changes for the better. i'm surprised to hear savannah has a lot of crime..guess i won't be driving my S there.
one more thing...anyone been to one of those bed and breakfast inns? are they worth it? costs seem comparable to hotels around the area...
