It sounds like you're not the intended target audience of BNC/BND in terms of the consumer culture aspects.

It's not about "forcing" people to go without, but all of the sorts of things I listed above.

You could get a Festivus Pole...



6ft bare aluminum pole with stand for $38. Way better than a plastic or real tree with all that annoying decoration..
