If pot were legal, then coke/heroin/meth/etc would be the next reason why people are overcrowding our jails.
I think part of the allure of pot is its inherent illegality. Taboacco and Alcohol are not as cool because they are far more legal.
AS long as we have any drug that is illegal, then there will always be this argument--If we just made _____ legal, we would not have to worry about our prisons being full.
I am sure they said that about alcohol in the early part of the 20th century.

I'm on the fence about whether other drugs should be legalized too, which would mean that instead of jail you would go to rehab. What can be called a crime when the only victim is yourself?
And yes, I'm sure they said the same thing about alcohol and prohibition, this is the exact same difference.
