Found out why my water softener doesn't work... The moron who installed it hooked it up wrong! 
The "In" is connected to the "Out."
The sad thing is that it was done by the previous owner. I don't even have anyone to cus at!

It gets worse, too... I have already done a bunch of work on the plumbing in my house... The entire well system has been replaced (basically, everything from the ground to the water softener) and I did a lot of the work myself.
Doh!
At least I found the problem and I can fix it.
