I'd like to revisit the whole 2k post thing. I remember one of the stipulations of getting a sub-forum from s2ki was that the basically useless threads be locked at 2k. Since that time, other communities/forums have added "useless" rooms and they are not limited to 2k posts.
Most of the time it really is no big deal at all, but once in a while we get on some useful discussions.
